Does PEPT accept my health insurance?

We are considered an out-of-network provider and/or fee-for-service. We have chosen to not buy contracts with insurance companies at this time for several reasons.

  1. Insurance companies are dictating how and when you should receive care without consideration for you as an individual.
  2. Reimbursement for physical therapy services is less and less each year. This forces most physical therapy clinics to see more and more patients in a day in order to make a profit and cover overhead. This does not allow attentive, one-on-one time.
  3. Most clinics accepting insurance are in the habit of scheduling patients 2x/week x 4-6 weeks. This may or may not be the most appropriate treatment. At PEPT, we will only treat you as appropriate. For example: you may need 3 days in a row, followed by 1x/week for 3 weeks. Instead 12 insurance-based visits, you would receive 6 meaningful visits.

How do I submit my payments to the insurance company?

We will email you a receipt for services, which you can submit directly to your insurance company with an out-of-network form. Currently, we have out-of-network forms for Cigna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna. We are working on obtaining others for your convenience.

Do I need a prescription from the Medical Doctor?

No. Colorado is considered a direct access state and a prescription is not required to receive physical therapy. However, some insurance companies do require a prescription if you will be submitting your payments to them.

What is fee for service and what are the fees?

Fee for service allows individuals with or without insurance to pay a flat, reasonable rate for physical therapy, an important medical service. It guarantees one-on-one, attentive time with a licensed physical therapist that is patient-focused using manual therapy and movement-based treatments.

Fees

Evaluation 1 hour $100
Follow-up Visit 30 min $50
Follow-up Visit 45 min $65
Follow-up Visit 1 hour $75

Visa/MC/Discover and check/cash accepted

Why is fee for service beneficial to me?

It allows you peace of mind in knowing that you will receive the most appropriate physical therapy intervention.

Many individuals are facing increasing insurance co-pays and deductibles, paying up to $100 at each follow-up visit. Some individuals do not have insurance or have exhausted their insurance benefits and do not know they can receive the same quality treatment as those with insurance. Additionally, insurance is beginning to dictate the number of visits you can receive and will reimburse a physical therapist for less than an average one hour massage.

What is Physical Therapy?

Physical therapy is the evaluation and treatment of the musculoskeletal system utilizing manual therapy, therapeutic exercise and other interventions in order to return individuals back to their specific function (ie. running, working, driving, hiking, etc…).

(top)

What is Manual Therapy?

Manual therapy is a hands-on approach that is used to promote permanent musculoskeletal tissue changes. It can include joint manipulation, soft tissue mobilization and specific stretching techniques.

(top)

What is the musculoskeletal system?

It is the combination of our muscles, bones, joints and all of the related connective tissue, nerves, blood vessels and lymphatics that allow our bodies to stand, sit and move throughout our daily function.

(top)

What is a holistic approach?

Holism considers the integrated whole greater than the sum of its parts. Thus, the body (the integrated whole) is a greater working entity than the sum of adding the ankle + knee+ hip+ etc…. Applied to physical therapy, a holistic approach takes this idea and treats an ankle dysfunction at the ankle, knee, hip and core for an optimal return to function.

What is a Manual Therapy Certification?

This is a certification that requires extensive testing (oral, practical and written) of advanced coursework through The University of St. Augustine for Health Sciences. It includes 4 courses of the spine, 2 of the extremity and 1 in myofascial manipulation.

What is preventive care?

Care with an emphasis on preventing health problems before they occur. For example, most of us visit the Dentist biannually to ensure our teeth are free of disease. This is considered preventive care.

(top)

Why is preventive care and physical therapy a good idea?

Most individuals only see a physical therapist after an injury, surgery or painful onset of symptoms. Just as our systemic system (heart, lungs, GI system, etc…) requires a yearly check, our musculoskeletal system also requires annual attention to optimize healthy movement and posture.

Preventive care is the key to future wellness and health and desires more attention in the early years to decrease insurance costs, injuries and surgeries in the later years.
